MIME Application/javaPages Not displaying properly? Try the Free PC Health Advisor Download to Troubleshoot Problems .. The mime application/java media type is one of many MIME types that indicate the presence of Java code. When Web browsers encounter files, they need a way of understanding what the files are and how to work with them. Java is a popular programming language requiring the use of browser plug-ins. The mediate type mime application/java helps the browser in understanding what the file is so that it can present it properly. According to Java.Sun.com, each new version and patch of Java plug-ins have their own unique MIME type and NP*.dll. This allows different versions of the Java Runtime to be deployed in the same environment. While mime application/java does not have the telltale “x-” prefix indicating that it is non-standard, mime application/java is not currently listed on the Internet Assigned Number Authority’s list of registered MIME types. In addition, Java.Sun.com specifies the use of application/x-java-applet followed by the version parameter in its plug-in developer guide. Though not thoroughly documented or registered with IANA, the mime application/java media type provides information about the file, indicating that it is most likely a Java CLASS file which is generally viewable on any computer equipped with the Java Virtual Machine. | Related MIME Application Types MIME text/x-java-source | |
