MIME Application/x-javascriptPages Not displaying properly? Try the Free PC Health Advisor Download to Troubleshoot Problems .. The mime application/x-javascript media type is a non-standard MIME type. Any subtype set off with the “x-” prefix is non-standard. This means that mime application/x-javascript is not registered through the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA). The prefix is required of IANA for any non-standard MIME type to indicate the MIME type’s unregistered status as well as to avoid future naming issues with media types registered in the future. For example, while mime application/x-javascript was widely used, IANA eventually registered the MIME media type application/javascript in 2006. You can tell the difference between the non-standard media type and the official registered media type based on the presence or lack of the “x-” prefix. In fact, when IANA officially registered the javascript MIME type, it registered four related MIME types at the same time, and then marked two of the four as “obsolete.” If you receive a file with the mime application/x-javascript MIME type, it’s most likely a JavaScript file with the .js file extension. JavaScript is a programming language with the source code contained in a .js file.
JavaScript is derived from the ECMAScript standard which is
why mime application/x-javascript media types were often expressed using
the now obsolete text/ecmascript media type. |
