MIME Application/x-pdfPages Not displaying properly? Try the Free PC Health Advisor Download to Troubleshoot Problems .. Mime application/x-pdf is a non-standard MIME type that has since been replaced by an officially registered version. Though Adobe listed application/pdf with the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority in 2004, PDF files were widely used long before that dating all the way back to 1993. Because a standard mime type had yet to be registered, programmers often used their own with mime application/x-pdf being one of the more common and more widely recognized variations. Whether the official mime type is indicated or the non-standard mime application/x-pdf, most Web browsers and email programs will recognize a file labeled as such as a PDF file. PDF files are Adobe Acrobat “Portable Document Format” files. These files end with the .pdf file extension and are normally opened in Adobe’s free Acrobat Reader program. PDF files are formatted document files similar to word processing files. However, many word processors can’t read documents created by other word processors. With the PDF format, documents are able to be shared and viewed with all formatting intact even if other users do not have the correct word processor. The viewed PDF file looks just like the document was originally created; it’s like a digital printout. Though mime application/x-pdf is no longer needed, your computer may encounter files using the mime application/x-pdf media type. |
